Once the level finishes, he returns to his blue form. Fanartists typically portray his red form with an evil grin and large scissors. Hairdresser Octopus is antagonistic for only one part of the game - stage five - during which he is hypnotized by a tape deck. Hairdresser Octopus is heavily implied to have a very cartoony depiction of disassociative identity disorder. The song that he sings in stage five, Hair Scare, is considered memorable and catchy by most of the fanbase. It is worth noting that the tentacles and pointy teeth may add to his appeal. Very rarely, people ship his red version with the blue, though not enough to warrant a place in the self-cest category. Many people ship him with another male character in the game, Guru Ant. In the anime, his Japanese voice actor portrays Hairdresser Octopus as having a flamboyant, sing-song voice. The flamboyance of his character lends to this, with one of his first lines being, "Cutting hair can be fabulous!" Hairdresser Octopus was confirmed as gay by the visual artist behind the Parappa series, Rodney Alan Greenblat, though he never displays attraction to other male characters in canon. During his song, his hair waves around, he sings loudly, and he brandishes scissors. Not only does he hold people hostage by locking them in salon chairs, but he also takes up space physically. Multiple examples of this stem from the fifth level of the game. A large amount of fanart involves these two forms interacting, or focus heavily on his red form. He is unable to remember what he does while in his red form. His hair-tentacles also stick upward and wave around, with their suckers visible. In this form, he grows taller, his dress is straighter, his teeth are pointier, and his hands are larger. When agitated or excited, he enters his red form, which is louder and more confident. Normally, he exists in his timid blue form, which is shorter and has a softer voice, a curvier dress, and floppier tentacle hair. He borrows some Spanish terms in his dialogue. Hairdresser Octopus has a distinctive Spanish accent which many fans find humorous. More information about this character can be found on his page on the Parappa the Rapper wiki. The protagonist, Parappa, faces off against Hairdresser Octopus in a good-natured rap battle in order to persuade Hairdresser Octopus to release the hostages. During the fifth level of the game, Hairdresser Octopus is hypnotized into his holding people hostage in his hair salon, though only for the benign purpose of giving them afros. He has two forms: his normal blue version and his alternate, more excitable red version, which he enters when provoked. In-universe, he is a talented and popular hairdresser.
